 | Ballot Issue
 | The following ballot issue was
approved: "Shall the Tri-Lakes Fire
Protection District be exempt from CRS
29-1-301, the statutory 5.5 percent property tax revenue limit,
beginning in fiscal year 2001 and subsequent years thereafter, to
allow the District to adjust the mill levy to meet the needs of the
District, not to exceed the current voter approved mill levy of
seven (7) mills without future voter approval?" |
 | Comments for the proposal
 | The district residents voted four
years ago for a mill levy increase up to 7 mills but the mill
levy has been going down ever since. |
 | The 5.5% statutory tax revenue
increase limit does not come close to the District's growth
percentage. |
 | The exemption is necessary to
assist in meeting the needs of the growing District and to
continue to improve service in the medical, fire, and rescue
services. |
 | Even with the exemption, the
District still has one of the lowest mill levies in the area for
fire and medical services. |
|
 | No comments against the proposal were
submitted. |

 | April 4th Monument Election Major Issues
 | What should be the Mayor and Board of
Trustees' role in shaping the growth of Monument and the Tri-Lakes area?
The Coalition supports the following vision of Monument's future:
 | An immediate review and update of
Town zoning to avoid recurrence of the recent concrete plant
controversy. |
 | No development without prior
assurance that needed infrastructure can and will be funded and
constructed, e.g., Baptist Road relative to Wal*Mart. |
 | A plan to sustain the Town's
prosperity as an integral and collaborative part of the Tri-Lakes
community. |
|
 | Should Monument convert to Home Rule status and form a Charter Commission
to create a Charter for the Town of Monument? View
a comparison of Home Rule vs. Statutory Towns. |
 | Who should be elected to serve on the
Charter Commission, if the Home Rule measure is approved? |
